Scientific Accuracy of the Quran Amazes University of Toronto Professor.

This message is based on an article entitled “Highlights of Human embryology in the Koran and Hadith” by Dr. Keith Moore, Professor of Anatomy and Chairman of the Department, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto, 1982.

Dr. Moore points out that the study of how the human embryo develops in the mother’s womb could not progress significantly without the use of microscopes. Microscopes were not invented until the 17th century C.E., and were not used in this field of study until the 18th century. Therefore, when Dr. Moore studied certain statements in the Qur’an on this subject, he remarked, “I was amazed at the scientific accuracy of these statements which were made in the 7th century C.E.,”

The Qur’an in 39:6 states that God made us in the wombs of our mothers in stages. Dr. Moore comments: 881“The realization that the embryo develops in stages in the uterus was not proposed until the 1759, and the stages used nowadays were not adopted worldwide until the late 19th & early 20th century C.E.”

Furthermore, he says: “The idea that development results from a genetic plan contained in the chromosomes of the zygote was not discovered until the end of the 19th century C.E. The verse from the Koran [80:18] clearly implies that the nutfa (i.e. the initial drop of fluid) contains the plan or blueprint for the future characteristics and features of the developing human being.”

The Qur’an 23:12-16 indicates that there is a lag or a gap between two of the early stages of growth. How does that compare with modern scientific knowledge? Remarkably! Says Dr. Moore: “It is well established that there is a lag or a delay in the development of the embryo during the implantation… The agreement between the lag or gap in development mentioned in the Qur’an and the slow rate of change occurring during the second or third week is amazing. These details of human development were not described until about 40 years ago.”

Finally, Dr. Moore concludes by saying that the agreement he has found in the Qur’anic statements “may help to close the gap between science and religion which has existed for so many years.”

The above evidence shows that the Qur’an must be from God as it claims. The Qur’an says that you and every human being should consider this book with care. Had it been from anyone other than God, you would have found much discrepancy in it. (4:82).

Prophets were sent to every nation
and tribe to support man’s natural belief in
Allah and his instinctive desire to worship
Him. Though Prophet Muhammad was
born in the Arabian Peninsula, he was sent
to All humanity to deliver a Message from
Allah to Arabs and non-Arabs alike. It was
the same Message Allah had sent down
with the earliest prophets: a description of
the way of life which Allah had established
for people to follow during their life on
earth. The Message of Islam was conveyed
in the form of a book (the Qur’an) and in
the living example of the Prophet. These
two are the basis of a way of life acceptable
to both mind and heart, the scope of which
transcends the traditional notion of
“religion”.
Dar Abdul Rahman is an ambitious project
which aims at presenting Islamic principles
and values that serve the propagation of
2
Islam. We target both Muslims and non-
Muslims to help them understand the
religion which advocates unity, tolerance
and peace, i.e. Islam.

Introduction
To establish your relationship with
another on a sound basis, it is necessary to
know his perspective about you.
It is difficult for a Muslim to know
what perspective a Christian has about
Islam. However, it is easy for a Christian to
know the Muslim’s perspective about
Christianity, as he (the Christian) only
needs to refer to the Qur’an-the basic
source of religious teaching of Muslims.
It is for this purpose that this paper
was prepared. Below, is a compilation of
verses of the Holy Qur’an- which refer to
Jesus and Christianity.
The Birth of Mary
Indeed, Allah chose Adam and Noah
and the family of Abraham and the family
of ‘Imran over the worlds- Descendants,
4
some of them from others. And Allah is All
Hearing and All Knowing. [Mention, O
Muhammad], when the wife of ‘lmran said,
My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You
what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your
service], so accept this from me. Indeed,
You are the All Hearing, the All knowing.”
But when she delivered her, she said, “My
Lord, I have delivered a female.” And Allah
was most knowing of what she delivered,
and the male is not like the female. “And I
have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for
her in You and [for] her descendants from
Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of
Allah].” So her Lord accepted her with
good acceptance and caused her to grow in
a good manner and put her in the care of
Zechariah. Every time Zechariah entered
upon her in the prayer chamber, he found
with her provision. He said, O Mary, from
where is this [coming] to you? ” She said,
“It is from Allah. Indeed, Allah provides for
whom He wills without account.” (Ali
‘Imran: 33-37)
5
The Eminence of Mary
And [mention] when the angels said, “O
Mary, indeed Allah has chosen you and
purified you and chosen you above the
women of the worlds. O Mary, be devoutly
obedient to your Lord and prostrate and
bow with those who bow [in prayer]” (Ali
‘Imran: 42-43).
And [the example of] Mary, the daughter of
‘Imran, who guarded her chastity, so We
blew into [her garment] through Our angel
[i.e. Gabriel], and she believed in the words
of her Lord and His scriptures and was of
the devoutly obedient (at-Tahreem:12).
And [mention] the one who guarded her
chastity [i.e. Mary], so We blew into her
[garment] through Our angel [i.e. Gabriel],
and We made her and her son a sign for the
worlds.(Al-Anbiya’: 91).
And We made the son of Mary and his
mother a sign and sheltered them within a
6
high ground having level [areas] and
flowing water (Al-Mu’minun: 50).
The Birth of Jesus
[And mention] when the angels said, “O
Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings
of a word1 from Him, whose name will be
the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary1
distinguished in this world and the
Hereafter and among those brought near [to
Allah]. He will speak to the people in the
cradle and in maturity and will be of the
righteous.” She said, “My Lord, how will I
have a child when no man has touched
me?” [The angel] said, “Such is Allah; He
creates what He wills. When He decrees a
matter, He only says to it, ‘Be, and it is.
And He will teach him writing and wisdom2
and the Torah and the Gospel, And [make
him] a messenger to the Children of Israel,
[who will say], ‘Indeed I have come to you

conceived merely by a command from Allah — the word “Be.”

7
with a sign from your Lord in that I design
for you from the clay [that which is] like
the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and
it becomes a bird by permission of Allah.
And I cure the blind [from birth] and the
leper, and I give life to the dead-by
permission of Allah. And I inform you of
what you eat and what you store in your
houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if
you are believers. And [I have come]
confirming what was before me of the
Torah and to make lawful for you some of
what was forbidden to you. And I have
come to you with a sign from your Lord, so
fear Allah and obey me. Indeed, Allah is
my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him.
That is the straight path” (Ali‘Imran:45-51).
And mention, [O Muhammad], in the Book
[the story of] Mary, when she withdrew
from her family to a place toward the east.
And she took, in seclusion from them, a
screen. Then We sent to her Our Angel [i.e.
Gabriel], and he represented himself to her
8
as a well-proportioned man. She said,
“Indeed, I seek refuge in the Most Merciful
from you, [so leave me], if you should be
fearing of Allah.” He said, “I am only the
messenger of your Lord to give you [news
of] a pure boy [i.e. son].” She said, “How
can I have a boy while no man has touched
me and I have not been unchaste?” He said,
“Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, ‘It is
easy for Me, and We will make him a sign
to the people and a mercy from Us. And it
is a matter [already] decreed.” So she
conceived him, and she withdrew with him
to a remote place. And the pains of
childbirth drove her to the trunk of palm
tree. She said, “Oh, I wish I had died before
this and was in oblivion, forgotten.” But he3
called her from below her, “Do not grieve;
your Lord has provided beneath you a
stream. And shake toward you the trunk of
the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe,
fresh dates. So eat and drink and be

contented. And if you see from among
humanity anyone, say, ‘Indeed, I have
vowed to the Most Merciful abstention, so I
will not speak today to [any] man.” Then
she brought him to her people, carrying
him. They said, “O Mary, you have
certainly done a thing unprecedented. O
sister of Aaron, your father was not a man
of evil, nor was your mother unchaste.” So
she pointed to him. They said, “How can
we speak to one who is in the cradle a
child?” [Jesus] said, “Indeed, I am the
servant of Allah. He has given me the
Scripture and made me a prophet. And He
has made me blessed wherever I am and has
enjoined upon me prayer and Zakah as long
as I remain alive, And [made me] dutiful to
my mother, and he has not made me a
wretched tyrant. And peace is on me the
day I was born and the day I will die and
the day I am raised Alive.” That is Jesus,
the son of Mary-the word of truth about
which they are in dispute. It is not
[befitting] for Allah to take a son; exalted is
10
He!4 When He decrees an affair, He only
says to it, “Be,” and it is. [Jesus said], “And
indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so
worship Him. That is a straight path”
(Maryam: 16-36).
The Eminence of Jesus
[The Day] when Allah will say, “O Jesus,
Son of Mary, remember My favor upon you
and upon your mother when I supported
you with the Pure Spirit [i.e. the angel
Gabriel] and you spoke to the people in the
cradle and in maturity; and [remember]
when I taught you writing and wisdom and
the Torah and the Gospel; and when you
designed from clay [what was] like the
form of a bird with My permission, then
you breathed into it, and it became a bird
with my permission; and you healed the
blind [from birth] and the leper with My

11
permission; and when you brought forth the
dead with My permission; and when I
restrained the Children of Israel from
[killing] you when you came to them with
clear proofs and those who disbelieved
among them said, “This is not but obvious
magic.” And [remember] when I inspired to
the disciples, “Believe in Me and in My
messenger [i.e.Jesus].”They said, “We have
believed, so bear witness that indeed we are
Muslims [in submission to Allah].” [And
remember] when the disciples said, “O
Jesus, Son of Mary, can your Lord5 send
down to us a table [spread with food] from
the heaven?” [Jesus] said, “Fear Allah, if
you should be believers.” They said, “We
wish to eat from it and let our hearts be
reassured and know that you have been
truthful to us and be among its witnesses.”
Said Jesus, the son of Mary, “O Allah, our
5 i.e. will Allah consent to (His ability is undoubted)
12
Lord, send down to us a table [spread with
food] from the heaven to be for us a festival
for the first of us and the last of us and a
sign from You. And provide for us, and
You are the best of providers.” Allah said,
“Indeed, I will send it down to you, but
whoever disbelieves afterwards from
among you-then indeed will I punish him
with a punishment by which I have not
punished anyone among the worlds” (Al-
Maidah 110-115).
And We did certainly give Moses the
Scripture [i.e. the Torah] and followed up
after him with messengers. And We gave
Jesus, the son of Mary, clear proofs and
supported him with the Pure Spirit [i.e. the
angel Gabriel]. But is it [not] that every
time a messenger came to you, [O Children
of Israel], with what your souls did not
desire, you were arrogant? And a party [of
messengers] you denied and another party
you killed (Al-Baqarah: 87).
13
Those messengers-some of them We caused
to exceed others. Among them were those
to whom Allah spoke, and He raised some
of them in degree. And We gave Jesus, the
Son of Mary, clear proofs, and We
supported him with the Pure Spirit [i.e.
Gabriel]. If Allah had willed, those
[generations] succeeding them would not
have fought each other after the clear proofs
had come to them. But they differed, and
some of them believed and some of them
disbelieved. And if Allah had willed, they
would not have fought each other, but Allah
does what He intends (Al-Baqarah: 253).
And We sent, following in their footsteps,6
Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that
which came before him in the Torah; and
We gave him the Gospel, in which was
guidance and light and confirming that
which preceded it of the Torah as guidance
6 i.e. following the tradition of the prophets of the Children of
Israel.
14
and instruction for the righteous (Al.
Ma’idah: 46).
Then We sent following their footsteps [i.e.
traditions] Our messengers and followed
[them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and
gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the
hearts of those who followed him
compassion and mercy, But monasticism,
which they innovated; We did not prescribe
it for them except [that they did so] seeking
the approval of Allah. But they did not
observe it with due observance. So We gave
the ones who believed among them their
reward, but many of them are defiantly
disobedient (Al-Hadeed: 27).
And [mention] when Jesus, the son of
Mary, said, “ O children of Israel, indeed I
am the Messenger of Allah to you
confirming what came before me of the
Torah and bringing good tidings of a
messenger to come after me, whose name is
15
Ahmad.”7 But when he came to them with
clear evidences they said, “This is obvious
magic “8 (as-Saff: 6).
And when the son of Mary was presented as
an example9 immediately your people
laughed aloud. And they said, “Are our
gods better, or is he?”10 They did not
present it [i.e. the comparison] except for
[mere] argument. But, [in fact], they are a
people prone to dispute. He [i.e. Jesus] was
not but a servant upon whom We bestowed
favor, and We made him an example for the
Children of Israel. And if We willed, We
could have made [instead] of you angels
succeeding [one another]11 on the earth.
And indeed, he [i.e. Jesus] will be [a sign
for] knowledge of the Hour, so be not in
7Another name of prophet Muhammad ( (صلى الله عليه وسلم

Him.

16
doubt of it, and follow Me.12 This is a
straight path. And never let Satan avert you.
Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy. And
when Jesus brought clear proofs, he said, “I
have come to you with wisdom [i.e.
prophethood] and to make clear to you
some of that over which you differ, so fear
Allah and obey me. Indeed, Allah is my
Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This
is a straight path.” But the denominations
from among them differed [and separated],
so woe to those who have wronged from the
punishment of a painful Day (Az-ukhruf:
57-65).
The Raising / Ascension of Jesus
But when Jesus felt [persistence in]
disbelief from them, he said, “Who are my
supporters for [the cause of] Allah?” The
disciples said,” We are supporters for Allah.
12 i.e., follow the guidance and instruction of Allah.
17
We have believed in Allah and testify that
we are Muslims [submitting to Him]. Our
Lord, we have believed in what You
revealed and have followed the messenger
[i.e. Jesus], so register us among the
witnesses [to truth].” And they [i.e. the
disbelievers] planned, but Allah planned.
And Allah is the best of planners. [Mention]
when Allah said, “O Jesus, indeed I will
take you and raise you to Myself and purify
[i.e. free] you from those who disbelieve
and make those who follow you [in
submission to Allah Alone] superior to
those who disbelieve until the Day of
Resurrection. Then to Me is your return,
and I will judge between you concerning
that in which you used to differ. And as for
those who disbelieved, I will punish them
with a severe punishment in this world and
the Hereafter, and they will have no
helpers.” But as for those who believed and
did righteous deeds, He will give them in
full their rewards, and Allah does not like
the wrongdoers. This is what We recite to
18
you, [O Muhammad], of [Our] verses and
the precise [and wise] message [i.e. the
Qur’an]. Indeed, the example of Jesus to
Allah13 is like that of Adam. He created him
from dust; then He said to him, “Be,” and
he was. The truth is from your Lord, so do
not be among the doubters (Ali ‘Imran:52-
60).
And [We cursed them]14 for their breaking
of the covenant and their disbelief in the
signs of Allah and their killing of the
prophets without right and their saying,
“Our hearts are wrapped” [i.e. sealed
against excerption]. Rather, Allah has
sealed them because of their disbelief, so
they believe not, except for a few.15 And
[We cursed them] for their disbelief and
their saying against Mary a great slander.16
And [for] their saying, “Indeed, we have
13 i.e. regarding His creation of him.

unlawful to them], based upon verse 160.

killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary,
the messenger of Allah.” And they did not
kill him, nor did they crucify him; but
[another] was made to resemble him to
them. And indeed, those who differ over it
are in doubt about it. They have no
knowledge of it except the following of
assumption. And they did not kill him, for
certain. Rather, Allah raised him to
Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in
Might and Wise (An-Nisa: 155— 158).
The Nature of Jesus
And [beware the Day] when Allah will say,
“O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the
people, “Take me and my mother as deities
besides Allah?” He will say, “Exalted are
You! It was not for me to say that to which
I have no right. If I had said it, You would
have known it. You know what is within
myself, and I do not know what is within
Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower
of the unseen. I said not to them except
what You commanded me-to worship
20
Allah, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a
witness over them as long as I was among
them; but when You took me up, You were
the Observer over them, and You are, over
All things, Witness. If You should punish
them-indeed they are Your servants; but if
You forgive them-indeed it is You who is
the Exalted in Might, the Wise. Allah will
say, This is the Day when the truthful will
benefit from their truthfulness.” For them
are gardens [in Paradise] beneath which
rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever,
Allah being pleased with them, and they
with Him. That is the great attainment. To
Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens
and the earth and whatever is within them.
And He is over All things competent (Al-
Maidah: 116-120).
O People of the Scripture, do not commit
excess in your religion17 or say about Allah
17 Another meaning is “And they did not kill him being certain
[of his identity]”, i.e. they killed another assuming it was Jesus
(upon whom be peace).
21
except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the
son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah
and His word which He directed to Mary
and a soul [created at a command] from
Him. So believe in Allah and His
messengers. And do not say, “Three”;
desist-it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is
but one God. Exalted is He above having a
son. To Him belongs whatever is in the
heavens and whatever is on the earth. And
sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.
Never would the Messiah disdain to be a
servant of Allah, nor would the angels near
[to Him]. And whoever disdains His
worship and is arrogant-He will gather them
to Himself All together. And as for those
who believed and did righteous deeds, He
will give them in full their rewards and
grant them extra from His bounty. But as
for those who disdained and were arrogant,
He will punish them with a painful punishment,
and they will not find for themselves
22
besides Allah any protector or helper (An-
Nisa’:171-173).
They have certainly disbelieved who say
that Allah is Christ, the son of Mary. Say,
“Then who could prevent Allah at All if He
had intended to destroy Christ, the son of
Mary, or his mother or everyone on the
earth?” And to Allah belongs the dominion
of the heavens and the earth and whatever is
between them. He creates what He wills,
and Allah is over All things competent (Al-
Maidah: 17).
They have certainly disbelieved who say,
“Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary”
while the Messiah has said, “O children of
Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your
Lord.” Indeed, he who associates others
with Allah, Allah has forbidden him
Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And
there are not for the wrongdoers any
helpers. They have certainly disbelieved
23
who say, “Allah is the third of three.”18 And
there is no god except one God. And if they
do not desist from what they are saying,
there will surely afflict the disbelievers
among them a painful punishment. So will
they not repent to Allah and seek His
forgiveness? And Allah is Forgiving and
Merciful. The Messiah, son of Mary, was
not but a messenger; [other] messengers
have passed on before him. And his mother
was a supporter of truth. They both used to
eat food19. Look how We make clear to
them the signs; then look how they are
deluded. Say, “Do you worship besides
Allah that which holds for you no [power
of] harm or benefit while it is Allah who is
the Hearing, the Knowing?’ (Al-Maidah:
72-76).
18 Such as attributing divine qualities to certain creations of Allah
or revering them excessively.
19 They were in need of sustenance, proving that they were
creations of Allah, not divine beings.
24
Muslims Believe in Previous Revelation
The religion of all Prophets is one- though
their laws are different-The Muslim
(follower of Muhammad) cannot be
considered a Muslim unless he believes in
All Prophets including Jesus and their
scriptures.
[Allah said], “O Messengers, eat from the
good foods and work righteousness, Indeed
I, of what you do, am Knowing. And indeed
this, your religion, is one religion20 and I
am your Lord, so fear Me.” But they [i.e.
the people] divided their religion among
them into portions [i.e. sects]-each faction,
in what it has,21 rejoicing (Al-
Mu’minun:51-53).
20 i.e. a collective way of life or course of conduct followed by a
community.
21 Of beliefs, opinions, customs, etc.
25
Indeed this, your religion,22 is one religion,
and I am your Lord, so worship Me. And
[yet] they divided their affair [i.e. that of
their religion] among themselves,23 [but]
All to Us will return (Al-Anbiya’: 92-93).
Say,[O, believers],“We have believed in
Allah and what has been revealed to us and
what has been revealed to Abraham and
Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the
Descendants [Al-Asbat]24 and what was
given to Moses and Jesus and what has
been given to the prophets from their Lord.
We make no distinction between any of
them, and we are Muslims [in submission]
to Him” (Al-Baqarah: 136).
Say, “We have believed in Allah and in
what was revealed to us and what was
22 i.e. a collective way of life or course of conduct followed by a
community.
23 i.e. one part of three, referring to the Christian concept of
trinity.
24 The twelve tribes of Israel descended from Jacob.
26
revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob,
and the Descendants [Al-Asbat?], and in
what was given to Moses and Jesus and to
the prophets from their Lord. We make no
distinction between any of them, and we are
Muslims [submitting] to Him” (Ali ‘Imran:
84).
This is the Book about which there is no
doubt, a guidance for those conscious of
Allah25-Who believe in the unseen,
establish prayer,26 and spend out of what
We27 have provided for them, And who
believe in what has been revealed to you,
[O Muhammad], and what was revealed
25 Literally, “those who have taqwa,” i.e. who have piety,
righteousness, fear and love of Allah, and who take great care to
avoid His displeasure.
26 At its proper times and according to its specified conditions.
27 It is to be noticed that the reference of Allah (subhanahu wa
ta’ala) to Himself as “We” in many Qur’anic verses is necessarily
understood in the Arabic language to denote grandeur and power,
as opposed to the intimate singular form “I” used in specific
instances.
27
before you, and of the Hereafter they are
certain [in faith] (Al-Baqarah:2-4)
The Messenger has believed in what
was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so
have] the believers. All of them have
believed in Allah and His angels and His
books and His messengers,[saying],”We
make no distinction between any of His
messengers.”And they say, “We hear and
we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our
Lord, and to You is the [final] destination”
(Al-Baqarah: 285).
He has ordained for you of religion what He
enjoined upon Noah and that which We
have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and
what We enjoined upon Abraham and
Moses and Jesus – to establish the religion
and not be divided therein. Difficult for
those who associate others with Allah is
that to which you invite them. Allah
chooses for Himself whom He wills and
guides to Himself whoever turns back [to
Him](Ash-Shura: 13).
28
The Single Religion
The Qur’an explains clearly that the
religion of All prophets is a single one. This
religion includes a single concept of God
and a single concept of moral principles.
The Qur’an calls this single religion Islam
and calls those who believe in it, Muslims.
Since the followers of Muhammad (peace
and blessings be upon him) believe in this
single religion they are called Muslims and
their religion is called Islam.
They say, “Be Jews or Christians [so] you
will be guided.” Say, “Rather, [we follow]
the religion of Abraham, inclining toward
truth, and he was not of the polytheists”
(Al-Baqarah:135)
Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian,
but he was one inclining toward truth, a
29
Muslim [submitting o Allah]. And he was
not of the polytheists28 (Ali Imran: 67).
But when Jesus felt [persistence in]
disbelief from them, he said, “Who are my
supporters for [the cause of] Allah?” The
disciples said,” We are supporters for Allah.
We have believed in Allah and testify that
we are Muslims [submitting to Him] (Ali
Imran: 52).
When his Lord said to him, “Submit,” he
said, “I have submitted [in Islam29] to the
Lord of the worlds.” And Abraham
instructed his sons [to do the same] and [so
did] Jacob, [saying], “O my sons, indeed
28 Those who associate others with Allah in worship.
29 The meaning of the word “Islam’ is submission to the will of
Allah.” This is the way of life ordained by Allah and taught by all
of the prophets from Adam to Muhammad (sallallahu alayhe wa
sallarn). A Muslim is one who submits himself to Allah.
30
Allah has chosen for you this religion, so do
not die except while you are Muslims.” Or
were you witnesses when death approached
Jacob, when he said to his sons, “What will
you worship after me?” They said, “We will
worship your God and the God of your
fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaacone
God. And we are Muslims [in
submission] to Him” (Al-Baqarah: 131-33).
And they say, “None will enter Paradise
except one who is a Jew or a Christian.”
That is [merely] their wishful thinking. Say,
“Produce your proof, if you should be
truthful.” Yes [on the contrary], whoever
submits his face [i.e. self] in Islam to Allah
while being a doer of good will have his
reward with his Lord. And no fear will
there be concerning them, nor will they
grieve. (Al-Baqarah: 111-112)
And never will the Jews or the Christians
approve of you until you follow their
religion. Say, “Indeed, the guidance of
Allah is the [only] guidance.” If you were
31
to follow their desires after what has come
to you of knowledge, you would have
against Allah no protector or helper (Al-
Baqarah: 120).
Say, “O People of the Scripture, come to a
word that is equitable between us and youthat
we will not worship except Allah and
not associate anything with Him and not
take one another as lords instead of
Allah30”. But if they turn away, then say,
“Bear witness that we are Muslims
[submitting to Him]” (Ali ‘Imran: 64).
Reverted not Converted
The sincere Christian will find that Islam is
very close to his heart and mind if he knows
the authentic Islam as described by the
Qur’an and if his perception is not
influenced by the lifestyle of ignorant
30 By obeying another in disobedience to Allah.
32
Muslims. Therefore, when he accepts Islam
he will have reverted and not converted
after All, the Qur’an relates that Islam is the
single religion of All the prophets and that
its followers are Muslims.
O you who have believed, bow and
prostrate and worship your Lord and do
good- that you may succeed. And strive for
Allah with the striving due to Him. He has
chosen you and has not placed upon you in
the religion any difficulty. [It is] the
religion of your father, Abraham. He [i.e.
Allah] named you “Muslims” before [in
former scriptures] and in this [revelation]
that the Messenger may be a witness over
you and you may be witnesses over the
people. So establish prayer and give Zakah
and hold fast to Allah. He is your protector,
and excellent is the Protector, and excellent
is the Helper (Al-Hajj: 77-78).
You will surely find the most intense of the
people in animosity toward the believers [to
be] the Jews and those who associate others
33
with Allah, and you will find the nearest of
them in affection to the believers those who
say, “We are Christians.” That is because
among them are priests and monks and
because they are not arrogant. And when
they hear what has been revealed to the
Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing
with tears because of what they have
recognized of the truth. They say, “Our
Lord, we have believed, so register us
among the witnesses. And why should we
not believe in Allah and what has come to
us of the truth? And we aspire that our Lord
will admit us [to Paradise] with the
righteous people.”So Allah rewarded them
for what they said31 with gardens [in
Paradise] beneath which rivers flow,
wherein they abide eternally. And that is the
reward of doers of good. But those who
disbelieved and denied Our signs-they are
31 i.e. their admission and acceptance of the truth and
commitment to Allah’s religion (Islam).
34
the companions of Hellfire (Al Maidah: 82-
86).
And We have [repeatedly] conveyed to
them the word [i.e. the Qur’an] that they
might be reminded. Those to whom We
gave the Scripture before it-they32 are
believers in it. And when it is recited to
them, they say, “We have believed in it;
indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed
we were, [even] before it, Muslims [i.e.
submitting to Allah].” Those will be given
their reward twice for what they patiently
endured and [because] they avert evil
through good, and from what We have
provided them they spend. And when they
hear ill speech, they turn away from it and
say,” For us are our deeds, and for you are
your deeds. Peace will be upon you33. We
32 i.e. the sincere believers among them.
33 This is not the Islamic greeting of “Peace be upon you.”
Rather, it means “You are secure from being treated in a like
manner by us.”
35
seek not (the way of) the ignorant” (Al-
Qasas: 51-55).
And indeed, among the People of the
Scripture are those who believe in Allah
and what was revealed to you and what was
revealed to them, [being] humbly
submissive to Allah. They do not exchange
the verses of Allah for a small price. Those
will have their reward with their Lord.
Indeed, Allah is swift in account (Ali
‘Imran: 199).
So if they argue with you say, “I have
submitted myself to Allah [in Islam], and
[so have] those who follow me.” And say to
those who were given the Scripture and [to]
the unlearned,34 “Have you submitted
yourselves?” And if they submit [in Islam],
they are rightly guided, but if they turn
away-then upon you is only the [duty of]
notification. And Allah is Seeing of [His]
Servants (Ali ‘Imran: 20).

The anti-Islam Dutch film – comment, criticism and advice

Question:

A Dutch film has recently been released that maligns Islam and Muslims, and describes them as terrorists. What is your advice to the Muslims concerning this matter?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah.

Firstly:

The conflict between truth and falsehood is an ancient one. The troops of falsehood continue to confront the truth at all times and in all places. But Allah caused them to be defeated by the strength of the truth and He hurls the truth against falsehood and destroys it, so it is bound to vanish.

Ever since Iblees was humiliated and refused to respond to the command of Allah to prostrate to Adam (peace be upon him), he began to plot against the truth and its followers. Iblees asked his Lord for a respite, not so that he could repent, but so that he could plot, and increase the number of his followers and bring them into the Fire of Allah, where he will stand and address them, saying:

“Verily, Allah promised you a promise of truth. And I too promised you, but I betrayed you. I had no authority over you except that I called you, and you responded to me. So blame me not, but blame yourselves. I cannot help you, nor can you help me. I deny your former act in associating me (Satan) as a partner with Allah (by obeying me in the life of the world). Verily, there is a painful torment for the Zaalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers)” (Quran: 14:22)

Secondly:

Islam has faced many great plots, but Allah has guaranteed to protect His religion, because He has made it the best of religions and the final religion.

Thirdly:

Here we are dealing with a new incident, but it will not be the last, because of the devils among mankind and the jinn and their ultimately hopeless attempts to impugn this religion, this Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and this Holy Book.

This incident is what has been wrought by the sinful hands of a man called Geert Wilders, the leader of the “Freedom” Party, which is a right-wing, racist Dutch party. He wanted to slander this great religion in order to become well known and to make political gains, but Allah foiled him and he will be foiled time and again, Insha Allah. This hater made a short film of seventeen minutes about Islam and the Qur’an, filled with lies and fabrications, and he called it “Fitnah”! If what he said was presented to an academic institution or university, he would deserve to be rebuked and scorned, because of his lack of objectivity, and because of his distortion of facts.

His film starts and ends with an offensive image of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that was drawn by the sinful, criminal hands of the Danish artist. At the beginning it shows a bomb in the turban of the so-called picture of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), where the fuse has just been lit. At the end of the film, the fuse has burnt down, and then it explodes. Thus he wants to send the despicable message that Islam came to wreak havoc and destruction, and that remaining silent about it will lead to the demise of non-Muslim civilizations and nations.

Fourthly:

We can divide our opinions about this evil film into a number of categories:

1.    Verses which are quoted out of context and their meanings distorted.

For example:

(a)

The first verse to be quoted in his film is (interpretation of the meaning):

“And make ready against them all you can of power, including steeds of war (tanks, planes, missiles, artillery) to threaten the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others besides…” (Quran: 8:60)

The quotation reaches this point but does not complete it. He wants to highlight the word “threaten” to indicate that Islam equals terrorism, which is how many haters and ignorant people want to label Islam.

We are not ashamed of what is in the Book of Allah and we do not deny this verse, rather we worship Allah by reciting it, and we ask Him to help us to act in accordance with it. But we reject his quoting this part of it on the basis of two things, to keep the discussion short:

Firstly, what he is denouncing Islam for is something that is done by all great and mighty nations. They produce lethal weapons, atomic bombs, planes, submarines and so on, to defend themselves and to threaten their enemies lest anyone attack them. This is what is meant in this verse. The kafirs who occupy Muslim lands could not have dared to do so except when the Muslims ceased to implement this verse. The most recent example of that is Iraq, where they put pressure on the government to destroy their weapons and missiles, then when that had been done and confirmed, they invaded and occupied the land, and mistreated its people.

Secondly, understanding the context of the verse properly will prove wrong the label of terrorism that he wants to apply to Islam, as he and his gang understand it. The verse which comes directly after this one says (interpretation of the meaning):

But if they incline to peace, you also incline to it, and (put your) trust in Allah. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower (Quran: 8:61)

(b)

The second verse that is heard in the film is (interpretation of the meaning):

“Surely, those who disbelieved in Our Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), We shall burn them in Fire. As often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for other skins that they may taste the punishment. Truly, Allah is Ever Most Powerful, All‑Wise” (Quran: 4:56)

The deception here is that this movie director quotes this verse to show viewers that Islam enjoins burning those who go against it until their skin is cooked, and this is something that Allah has prescribed for them.

This may be refuted on two counts:

Firstly, what he does is a foolish deception, because in this verse Allah is speaking of the punishment of the kafirs on the Day of Resurrection, not in this world. It is followed by mention of the reward of the believers who affirm His Oneness (Tawheed):

“But those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah — Islamic Monotheism) and do deeds of righteousness, We shall admit them to Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), abiding therein forever. Therein they shall have Azwaajun Mutahharatun (purified mates or wives), and We shall admit them to shades wide and ever deepening (Paradise)” (Quran: 4:57)

Secondly, even the briefest pondering of this verse will show the lies, fabrications and misquotations of this director. In this verse, Allah says We shall change them for other skins. Are the Muslims able to change the skins of those whose skins are burned in this world?!

2.     Fabricated pictures, or pictures that do not show what he is trying to prove, or that show things which are denounced in Islam altogether

For example:

(a)

Pictures of a group of Raafidis – Shi’ah – wounding themselves and their children with sharp tools, causing their heads to bleed, in a disgusting scene. This is not part of our religion, rather it is done by some of those who call themselves Muslims out of ignorance and misguidance on their part.

The picture which shows swords being held aloft covered with blood is also an image of the Shi’ah on their special occasions, but the lying filmmaker wants to make people think that these are Muslims and that they have just finished a party where kafirs’ heads were cut off.

(b)

Another ridiculous and clearly false image is the picture of Muslim women in niqaab waving placards on which it is written “God bless Hitler”!

We say: This is clearly a lie and a fabrication. In our religion we are forbidden to pray for the one who dies a kafir. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“It is not (proper) for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allah’s forgiveness for the Mushrikoon, even though they be of kin, after it has become clear to them that they are the dwellers of the Fire (because they died in a state of disbelief)” (Quran: 9:113)

How can women who wear niqaab and adhere to the rulings of Islam pray for blessing for Hitler?

3.     Video clips, some of which contain facts which cannot be doubted and others contain distortion of facts and deceive viewers.

For example:

(a)

A fabricated meeting with a little girl. It is obvious that they have not presented her or fabricated her story very well, for two reasons:

Firstly, she is wearing hijab, and they are asking her about her religion. It is obvious that she is acting.

Secondly, the child who was acting was asked about her opinion of Jews and Christians and she said that they are monkeys and pigs.

This is not part of our religion; Islam does not say that the Jews and Christians are monkeys and pigs, rather it says that a group of Jews in the past tried to use tricks to circumvent the laws of their Lord, so Allah punished them by turning them into monkeys. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And indeed you knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath (i.e. Saturday). We said to them: ‘Be you monkeys, despised and rejected’” (Quran: 2:65)

“So when they exceeded the limits of what they were prohibited, We said to them: ‘Be you monkeys, despised and rejected’” (Quran: 7:166)

(b)

Showing video clips out of context, such as the clip of a khateeb (preacher) who brandishes a sword and threatens the kuffaar.

This Shaykh is well known. He was Iraqi and he waved the sword during his khutbah (sermon) to encourage the people to fight against the kuffaar, who are occupying his country, and he was killed by the Raafidis – may they get from Allah what they deserve. What does he expect the Muslims to do if their land is occupied? Give up their wealth and their honour, and wait to be killed, or approve and forgive the criminal occupier?! No, Islam is a religion of pride and dignity, and the Muslims refuse to be humiliated; they have no alternative but to fight the occupier. This is confirmed by every religion and law on earth. In fact the leader of the occupation himself said, “If my country were occupied I would fight the occupier.” If we assume that he would indeed fight and not run away, he is only speaking the truth, i.e., that the occupier is to be fought.

What is wrong with the Muslims fighting a jihad against those who occupy their land?

Fifthly:

The main ideas of the film are all aimed at insulting Islam by mocking and making fun of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); by reviling the Qur’an and calling it a “fascist” book, as it says in the film; and by warning of the danger of mosques. All of that the filmmaker tries to do in his short film by use of video clips, moving images and the accompanying music, but he fails miserably, because he uses lies, falsification and deceit, which will never be accepted by the viewer, even if he is a kafir.

But Allah has caused his plot to backfire, because the people in Holland are rushing to buy Islamic books and copies of the Qur’an, to see what is in them, and they will see in them that which will show the falseness and fabrication of what this failed filmmaker has produced. This has indeed happened; three people from that country became Muslim after watching the film, and Dutch companies have threatened to take this filmmaker, who is also an MP, to court if Muslim countries boycott their products. Thus this MP will be humiliated and shamed, and the evil plot will not affect anyone but its authors.

Sixthly:

Allah has clearly supported His religion. Since the launch of the movie was announced, non-Muslim organizations, governments and individuals have denounced this filmmaking MP, and stated that Islam has nothing to do with violence and terrorism, and that Muslims themselves are victims of terrorism as well as others. Among those who have denounced and objected to the actions of this filmmaking MP is the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, who said strong words against it; the Secretary of the United Nations; the European Union; and a number of politicians, leaders and countries. Satellite channels, both public and private, have refused to show this film, and he could only find one web site that would publish it.

In Mufakkirat al-Islam (Saturday 22 Rabee’ al-Awwa; 1429 AH/29 March 2008), it says:

In Brussels, the European Parliament condemned this offensive film, and the President of the Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering, attacked the Dutch MP Wilders, saying: The contents of the film seem designed to stir up the religious sensitivities of Muslims in the Netherlands, Europe and worldwide.

He added: On behalf of the European Parliament, I emphatically refuse to accept the film’s message that Islam is a violent religion – indicating that he fully endorsed the statement of the Dutch government which rejected the film “Fitnah”.

Similarly, the European Union issued a statement that it regarded the fifteen-minute-long film as hostile and offensive to Islam, and likely to spread hate. End quote.

As for the Muslims, they took action to denounce and condemn the film, and they issued statements and warnings against continuing to malign the symbols of our religion. Some countries threatened to cut ties with the Netherlands, and MPs in some countries demanded the expulsion of the Dutch ambassador and boycotts of Dutch products. Despite the weakness and disunity in which the Muslims are living, this was regarded as great support for Islam, as there are people among both the kuffaar and the Muslims who are defending our religion. The Prime Minister of the Netherlands himself sent a letter to the Shaykh of al-Azhar, stating that his government objected to the production and showing of this film, and that a case had been brought before the Dutch courts.

How would the situation be if the Muslims were truly united and they had the strength to instill respect and awe in the hearts of those haters and fabricators?

Seventhly:

It seems to us that this lying MP wanted to achieve certain aims by making this film, including the following:

1.     Personal gain, fame and victory at the polls.

2.     Pleasing the Jews. That is obvious in his film, as in a number of clips he expresses sympathy for them. But they are occupiers and criminals. At the same time as he speaks of killing by Muslims, he forgets or pretends to forget two things:

(i)            That the one who burned millions of Jews was a Christian, namely Hitler, who said in his book Mein Kampf that this was on the orders of God!

(ii)                 That the Jews killed and expelled a great number of Muslims, and they were not ashamed to call their latest battle against Gaza a “holocaust”.

3.   Alerting the West to the high percentages of Muslims in their countries, and saying that large numbers of Muslims poses a danger to Europe.

4.     Alerting Europe in general, and the Netherlands in particular, to the spread of mosques in their lands. This is clear from his showing pictures of mosques in the Netherlands, to warn of their presence.

5.      Attempting to ban circulation of Qur’ans in Europe, and computing the Holy Qur’an to Hitler’s book Mein Kampf! Hence he describes the Qur’an as “fascist”, which is a word that is indicative of violence and harshness.

Allah has humiliated this filmmaking MP by means of this pathetic work that is filled with lies and fabrications. People will see the difference between lies and the truth when they read the Holy Qur’an and what has been written about Islam and about him by the wise among their own people. This film will motivate them to read and find out, Insha Allah, and perhaps it will be the cause of many being saved from misguidance.

Eighthly:

The basic message of this film is to describe Islam as a terrorist and violent religion. But this is no more than a fabrication. Islam is the religion of mercy, justice and humanity. It is what saved the people of other religions from the injustice and wrongdoing of their rulers, as happened in Andalusia, Egypt and other countries in which people of other groups were badly mistreated, including the Jews.

Israel Wolfenson says:

The minor losses incurred by the Jews in the Hijaz are insignificant in comparison with the benefits that the Jews gained with the emergence of Islam. The Muslim conquerors saved thousands of Jews who were spread throughout the lands of the Roman Empire, and who were faced with all kinds of persecution.

Al-Yahood wa’l-Tahaaluf ma’a al-Aqwiya’ by Dr. Nu’maan ‘Abd al-Razzaaq al-Saamara’i, quoted in an article by Professor Khaalid Joodah, al-Faariq al-Insaani bayna Hadaarat al-Islam wa Thaqaafat al-Gharb.

Islam is not a religion which accepts humiliation, and jihad for the sake of Allah is one of its main principles and one of the greatest of deeds in Islam. It is prescribed in order to protect the Muslims from their enemies, to convey the religion of Allah, and to spread the word of Tawheed (divine Oneness) throughout the world. Islam does not say that people must be forced to enter it, because one of the conditions of Islam (being Muslim) is sincerity, and if there is no sincerity then one is a hypocrite among the ranks of Muslims, and Islam does not want this base characteristic among its followers. On the other hand, we find that priests and monks have played a part in forcing people to accept Christianity in Europe and elsewhere, and the numbers of people who were slain in pursuit of this aim is very great indeed; historians say that they are between 7 and 15 million!

Another obvious wrong is focusing on the mistakes of some Muslims who were denounced by Muslim scholars and leaders for killing innocent people and attributing that to Islam – as happens in some clips in the film about the bombs on the trains in London and Madrid and the like. All of that was denounced by Muslim scholars, even though these deeds were a reaction against wrongdoing and oppression. At the same time they ignore those who were slain in the First and Second World Wars in which tens of millions died – 14 million in WW1 and 55 million in WW2. Those wars were not between the Muslims and Christians, rather they were amongst themselves. They did not make any mention either of the people killed in Japan by the American Atomic bombs, or the “Red Indians” (Native Americans) killed by the Americans, or the Asian people also killed by the Americans, or those who were killed by colonialists and occupiers.

They ignore the destruction and terrorism wrought by the crusader attacks against Muslim lands; they ignore what America and its allies are doing today in Afghanistan and Iraq; what the Serbs did with the blessing of the priests in Bosnia; and much, much more. If there are things that history may forget about, it can never forget what the Inquisition did, especially in Spain.

Gustave le Bon says in his book Arab Civilization:

Ferdinand promised to give the Arabs freedom of religion and language, but in 1499 the persecution of the Arabs began, which lasted for centuries, and which did not end until the Arabs had been expelled from Spain. It started with forcing Arabs to be baptized, then the Inquisition ordered that many of those who had been baptised be burned on the grounds that they were not really Christians. This “purging by fire” continued slowly because it was not possible to burn millions of Arabs in one go.

The “pious” Cardinal of Toledo, who was the head of the Inquisition, advised cutting off the heads of all the Arabs who did not become Christian, men, women, old people and children. The Dominican monk Baleda did not think that this was sufficient, and advised that the Arabs who had become Christian should also be beheaded, as well as those who had remained Muslim. His reason for doing so was that it was impossible to know whether the faith of those Arabs who had become Christian was sincere, so it was preferable to kill all of the Arabs with the sword, so that God could judge between them in the afterlife, and send to Hell those whose Christianity was not sincere! We can only admit that we cannot find such vicious conquerors who should be condemned for unlawful slaughter like that committed against the Muslims!

Hadaarat al-‘Arab (p. 270-272)

Anyone who thinks about it now will find that the terrorists are people of other religions, Christians, Jews, Hindus and Sikhs; he will find that the Muslims are the victims of this terror. When will the sleepers wake up?! When with the heedless become aware?

We said to this lying MP who is calling us to rip the terrorist pages out of the Holy Qur’an – as he claims: Come and let us see what your Holy Bible says about terrorism:

If you are a Jew who believes in the Old Testament, then see what is attributed to the Lord, when He said to Moses in Deuteronomy 20:10, 16-17:

“When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace …

However, in the cities of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes. 17 Completely destroy them—the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—as the LORD your God has commanded you.”

If you are a Christian and want something from the New Testament, then here are some texts from it.

In Matthew 10:34-36, it is narrated that Jesus (peace be upon him) said:

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

35 For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law

36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.”

Ninthly:

What the Muslims should do now is:

1.   Not cause problems in their own countries, such as demonstrations in which property is destroyed or blood is shed.

2.   Refer the matter to scholars and wise men to deal with it, or something similar.

3.   Strive to adhere to Islam in word and deed, which means taking part in spreading Islam and annoying the kafirs who hate Islam and the Muslims.

4.   Call people to Allah with wisdom and knowledge, distribute translations of the meanings of the Qur’an and easy-to-read Islamic books, and seek the help of trustworthy Islamic organizations and trustworthy scholars in doing so.

And Allah is the Guide.

10 Points of Enlightenment on What Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) Gave to Humanity

10 Points of Enlightenment on What Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) Gave to Humanity

Dr. Adil bin Ali ash-Shaddy

Secretary General of the International Program

for Introducing the Prophet of Mercy

All praise is due to Allah, and blessings and peace be upon His final Messenger.

Some non-Muslim westerners have been wondering what it is that Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) presented to humanity, particularly after the defamation of his honorable character by western media.

Assuming responsibility under the International Program for Introducing the Prophet of Mercy (blessings and peace be upon him), we deem it our duty to answer the questions regarding what our Prophet gave to humanity and the world. It can be briefly summarized as follows:

– Through revelation from God (Allah), Muhammad (Peace be upon him) transferred humanity from obedience and submission to other men to the worship and submission to God alone, associating nothing with Him. Consequently, human kind became free from servitude to other than Allah, and this is the greatest honor for mankind.

– Through revelation from God, Muhammad (Peace be upon him) liberated the human mind from superstition, deception and submission to false objects of worship as well as those concepts contrary to reason, such as the claim that God had a human son whom He sacrificed to atone for the sins of humanity.

– Muhammad (Peace be upon him) laid the foundations for tolerance among people. In the Qur’an, Allah revealed to His Prophet that there is to be no compulsion in the acceptance of religion. Muhammad (Peace be upon him) also clarified the rights of the non-Muslims who do not wage war against Muslims and guaranteed protection of their lives, children, property and honor. Even today in many Muslim countries there are Jewish and Christian citizens living in peace and security in contrast to the Spanish Inquisitions in which Muslims were exterminated in an ethnic cleansing that violated all the humanitarian principles asserted by the western culture.

– Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was a mercy sent by God to all peoples regardless of race or faith. In fact, his teachings include mercy even to birds and animals, and forbid harming them without right or reason.

– Muhammad (showed unparalleled respect for and appreciation of all the prophets who preceded him, among them Abraham, Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them all). God revealed to him words to the effect that one who denies or disrespects any of the prophets cannot be a Muslim. Islam regards all of the prophets as one brotherhood, inviting people to the belief that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, who is the one true God.

– Muhammad (Peace be upon him) defended human rights for both males and females, for young and old, regardless of social status. He established a set of sublime principles; one example being in the speech he gave during his farewell pilgrimage in which he declared strict prohibition of transgression against people’s lives, property and honor. These principles he laid down long before the world knew of the Magna Charta in 1215, the Declaration of Rights in 1628, the Personal Freedoms Law in 1679, the American Declaration of Independence in 1776, the Human and Citizen Rights Charter in 1789, and the worldwide Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

– Muhammad (Peace be upon him) elevated the importance of morality in human life. He called for good manners, honesty, loyalty and chastity and strengthened social bonds such as being dutiful to parents and relatives, always putting into practice what he preached. He prohibited and warned against such negative behavior as lying, envy, betrayal, fornication and disrespect of parents, and he treated the problems stemming from these diseases.

– Through the revelation from God Muhammad (Peace be upon him) invited people to use their minds, to discover the universe around them and to acquire knowledge. He confirmed that God rewards such deeds at a time when scientists and intellectuals in other civilizations were suffering persecution and accusations of heresy and blasphemy, being terrorized in prisons, tortured and often killed.

– Muhammad (Peace be upon him) came with a revelation from God, presenting a religion compatible to human nature – one that satisfies the needs of the soul and those of the body and establishes a balance between worldly deeds and those done for the Hereafter. It is a religion that disciplines human instincts and desires without suppressing them completely as in some other cultures which were absorbed with ideals contrary to human nature, depriving religious men given to worship of such natural human rights as marriage and of such natural reactions as anger toward transgression, expecting them not to defend against aggressors. This led most members of these civilizations to reject religious teachings and become absorbed in the material world, which caters only to their bodies while leaving their souls in a miserable state.

– Muhammad (Peace be upon him) presented to the world a perfect model of brotherhood among human beings. He taught that no race is superior to another for all are equal in origin and equal in their responsibilities and rights. One’s degree of faith and piety is the only criterion for preference. His companions were given equal opportunities to belong to and serve the religion. Among them were Suhayb, a Byzantine, Bilal, an Abyssinian, Salman, a Persian, and many other non-Arabs.

In conclusion, each of these ten points requires further detail and explanation. What Muhammad (Peace be upon him) offered humanity is much more than can be mentioned in this brief outline. There is also a great deal that has been said about him by objective researchers from the East and West after they studied the biography of this great Prophet.

Freddie Mac.
